Art Walk 2026

The Art Walk is a school-wide initiative/event involving all students and teachers, intended to showcase the creative talents of our Dragons and bring the community together in celebration and appreciation. The Art Walk in the Garden organizing team is Ms. Castrellon, Ms. Williams and Dr. Dewey. Here are some of our projects!

​Name of Project:  6th Grade Ceramic bottle tree. Voice/choice: There is a sculpture in the garden for bottles that has not been used for years and we wanted to create something colorful to add to it. Process: The class first attempted to wrap clay around glass bottles but it didn't work as planned. Next we wrapped clay around cans of spray paint so we could remove them easily. The bottles were bisque fired to cone 06 and then glazed by the students and re-fired at cone 5. Materials: Recycled high fire clay, glaze. ​Name of Project: 4th Grade Rock Village Voice/choice: Students voted on different ideas from a slideshow and chose a rock village. 
Process: Students painted a backdrop with roads, water (ocean), grass, and a train track. They painted rocks including stores, shops and cars. Next students added fine details with markers and paint pens, then arranged and glued them onto wood panels. Materials: Rocks, paint, brushes, paint pens, markers, wood panels, epoxy glue, Mod Podge  Inspiration: Inspired by collaboration and creativity!

​Name of Project: Kindergarten Tin Can Windchimes. Voice/choice: The students wanted to create hanging art pieces using the 3 R's; reusing materials, reducing our waste and recycling! Process: Students painted their tin cans, then they used beads, keys and glass gems to decorate some strings. We tied the decorated strings to the lid of the hanging can. Materials: Tin cans, beads, keys, and glass prisms. 
Acknowledgements: All of the students used their creativity to make beautiful and unique artwork. 

​Name of Project: The 3rd Grade Bug & Bird Hotel 
Voice/choice: The 3rd grade class enjoys building and making, especially for insects. Process: We assigned six crews - 1) Accessibility, 2) Door, 3) Safety, 4) Roof, 5) Exterior, 6) Interior. From there, crews met to begin planning, discussing materials needed, then to measure the bug hotel structure, and start executing their ideas. Materials: Used wooden pallets, leaves, sticks, old pipe, recycled bottles, toilet paper rolls, used rope or string, cotton. Acknowledgments: Thanks to the "Roof Crew" for the inspiration to make this a place of rest for birds as well.

Name of Project: The 2nd Grade Spring Bug Hotel. Voice/choice: We wanted our project to be environmentally friendly and decided to reuse an old dresser by turning it into a bug hotel. Process: Students painted wood logs to decorate the hotel and show the theme of spring. Then, students chose natural materials such as sticks, acorn shells, stones, straws, and flowers to create cozy living spaces for bugs. Students also came up with a creative idea to use straws to build a dragon. Materials: Old dresser, wood logs, straws, flowers, stones, sticks, acorn shells, and other natural materials.

​Name of Project: ​Middle School Stepping Stones. Voice/choice:
Each grade, 6-8, voted on their class theme, which is garden-related. Process: Students cleaned their stepping stones, designed, and painted their projects. The pavers can be found down in the native garden! 
Materials: Stepping stones, acrylic paint, brushes, paint pallets, sealant. 

​Name of Project: 1st Grade Recycled Bottle Wind Catchers and Bird Feeders. Voice/choice: Students wanted to create something that would help to attract beneficial wildlife to the garden and add beautiful things to look at. Process: We used recycled water bottles and tissue paper to Modge Podge colorful wind catchers. We used recycled 2 liter soda bottles and tissue paper to Modge Podge colorful bird catchers. The teachers then used an exacto knife to cut the slits. Materials: recycled water bottles and soda bottles, tissue paper, Modge Podge.

​Name of Project:  TK and 5th Grade Fairy houses
Voice/choice : TK loves fairies and anything imaginative! Our 5th grade buddies came into assist us and created their own fairy houses as well.
Process:  We collected paper towel and toilet paper rolls from families to use for our fairy house bases. Next, we painted the houses. To finish the project, we added decorations and roofs.
Materials:  Paper towel/toilet paper tubes, paint, decorations.
