Attendance and Tardies
Student academic achievement is closely tied to student attendance according to educational research. It is extremely important to understand that our school will not receive funding from the State of California for pupils who are absent from school. This includes all absences, including those related to illness, medical, bereavement, and family vacations. This current trimester is the period that our ADA funding is based on and if our attendance drops below, we could lose anywhere from $5,179 to $5,404 per child for the year. We are already operating at a deficit for this year and we cannot afford to lose any more funding.
Our discipline policy defines clear consequences for unexcused tardies and absences.
Thank you for supporting us in providing the very best education possible for your student by them them to school on time, all the time!
Spelling Bee
On February 1, spellers faced off in a competitive match to determine who will represent SYVCS at this year's county Spelling Bee. Our final contestants are Madisen Bramsen and Wyatt Meyer. They will compete against other students in the county at the Santa Barbara County Education Office on Wednesday, February 24th!
Introducing our New Resource Teacher - Rosie Talmadge
We have a new resource teacher on campus, and we welcome her! Click here to download a copy of her letter to SYVCS Parents.
Dress Code
Parents, please remember that when your child comes to school he or she must follow the SYVCS Dress and Grooming Code, which means that a student cannot wear:
- Shorts with an inseam less than 3 inches long, short skirts or dresses
- Beach attire
- Crop tops, belly shirts, tube tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps (acceptable for students in K-3 only)
- Clothing suggestive of gang attire
Character Counts
This month we are focusing on the pillar of trustworthiness. Students, kindergarten through eighth grade, are learning that being trustworthy means to be honest, to do what you say you are going to do, and to have the courage to do the right thing. All classes are learning this pillar through letter writing, discussion, signing posters, solving problems or reading stories about it. Check out our Character Counts bulletin
board in the front office and see what the second graders have done to learn what it means to be trustworthy.
